Inspiration 4 this post came as a result of seeing ALS Ice Bucket Challenge many ppl around me took without having a real clue what it's all about. In other words, many of them made no donation @ all but used ALS 4 pure self promotion. I believe that's quite sad, as it's a clear reminder how all of us may be shallow & superficial from time 2 time.
Without moralizing 2 much about it, I really believe that's 1 of d biggest problems we all face today - us (& consequently d world around us) has became increasingly focused on worshiping material things, while true values seem 2 be slowly but steadily forgotten. Let's face it - today it's still all about d looks & most of our toughs, behaviors & decisions r (sub)contentiously driven by our ego, which is successfully being exploited by numerous industries. This issue is so universal that sometimes I believe resolution 4 global recession is closer than we think - just introduce global shallowness tax and world will be instantly better of : /
Instead of collaborating, it often seems ppl of today r competing with each other in a special form of Olympic games, where various forms of shallowness in humans r being celebrated. Animals r so much better than us in this regard- they just think of food, shelter, reproduction & show genuine emotions. So, here r few examples of twisted man-made disciplines @ such Shallowness Olympics:
- number of selfies taken per week
- tons of make up applied
- number of duck-faces per photo
- number of chek-ins per capita
- number of artificial body parts per person
- famous brands per outfit
- number of "celebrities" some1 knows
- ...
Regardless of d technology that should help us communicate & connect more easily, paradoxical truth is that today we never felt more lonely or isolated. Another paradox lies in d fact that we tend 2 buy things we don't need 2 impress ppl we don't like or hardly know... or we might neglect us falling apart from d inside as long as it looks good from d outside. As a result, our own shallowness is erasing our own distinguishing features & turns us into clones who all strive 2 follow imposed norms. None of us r immune 2 this phenomenon, but @ least try 2 be aware of it & use it 2 your own advantage whenever possible.
It all leads us 2 re-examine our values & imposes a question weather we r able 2 recognize true "star" qualities in ppl around us. In other words, if we can distinguish manufactured charisma from real, genuine 1. If u're not quite clear what I mean, ask yourself "who should be a role model 4 future generation 2 look up 2?"
Is it...
magnificent Paris Hilton... or....
... this half blind girl with strangely shaped arms ?
EXACTLY!
