Nowadays u tend 2 hear d phrase "just fake it till u make it" quite often & it personally pisses me of in many different ways. Mainly because it glorifies fake behavior as sth desirable, which may seem like a shortcut 2 prosperity of any kind. I believe that's wrong & dangerous message, being so far away from d real truth. D only result of practicing such viewpoint is breeding of new wannabees or pretenders - aren't we fed up with them already?
Here r few views on this subject from d various perspectives, together with some interpretations why faking it as a strategy shouldn't pay off:
- from d MARKETING PERSPECTIVE nowadays it no longer applies since information became widely available, customers become more informed & their choices r now more sophisticated. Also, almost everybody is now vulnerable through social media or other forms of exposure. Recent studies show that today 90 % of customers seek & trust peer recommendations, while only 14 % believe in pure advertising.
- SALES POINT OF VIEW indicates u can use overselling or other forms of deception 2 boost initial sales figures but d real truth should soon be revealed, especially when we keep in mind that bad news travel much faster than good 1s (i.e. some research showed buyers r 9 times more likely 2 share their negative experiences with others than positive).
- from d GENERAL BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE u can't fake it 4 long. U might won few quick battles by using "take d money & run" strategy but such devious harvesting strategy will sooner or later backfire & u'll end up hunted down, either by d authorities or your own consciousness. U can have several chances 2 earn money, but u can lose your credibility & dignity only once (@ least it should be like that in developed democracies we all strive 2 become). We all know how hard & long lasting it is 2 build an image & how easy it's 2 lose it in a blink of an eye. And u can't put a price on that @ d end. Just ask Scandinavian countries.
- SOCIAL DIMENSION dictates that u willingly socialize with ppl who r similar 2 u. In d "fake case" it means u'll end up surrounded with other fakers who will drag u in d vicious circle which will inevitably self destruct in 1 way or another.
- INDIVIDUAL PERSPECTIVE might be d hardest 2 swallow - faking of any kind puts huge amount of pressure on d faker & in early phases it commonly results in self-questioning or loneliness, while chronic cases often end up in full destruction of your authenticity & disintegration of character.
- if we perceive faking & lying as synonyms, simple WORKLOAD PERSPECTIVE shows that faking sth requires lot of hard work 2 memorize all d fabricated scenarios shared with numerous ppl - @ 1 point it's also doomed 2 burst like a bubble. Being constantly honest is always d easiest policy.
- Pure LOGICAL PERSPECTIVE indicates that faking it doesn't pay off in d long run, otherwise everybody would be playing this card & nobody will be willing 2 work hard 4 anything.
Even if d best formula 4 any personal &/or professional prosperity might be "just keep trying till u earn it", sometimes it's easier said than done. Most major breakthroughs in life often take time, require u 2 significantly step out of your comfort zone, conquer d fear & "boldly go where no man has gone before". On other hand, some ppl r simply not ready 2 brake d existing habits, believe that they don't have d real choice or search 4 quick wins. In any case, choice is always yours.
Sadly, some ppl have obviously chosen 2 travel down "d fake road". Even if it seems that's d global phenomenon, they r still d minority & good thing is that it become easier 2 see through a faker & award him/her with d "fake stamp" they deserve. Only questions in this story r:
- can we fully eradicate it or we simply need 2 increase our tolerance levels & learn 2 live with it?
- do we put enough emphasis on authenticity as a virtue or we take it 4 granted?
- if that was d price 2 pay 4 experiencing benefits of d modern world, was it worth it?
